I ran a silver NNAS course in South Wales just before Easter.  It was successful and everyone concerned was happy with the outcome!  We stayed in Brecon Youth Hostel and used Hirwaun Common the first day and the Llangattock escarpment on the second.

It was very nice, for me, to run a Silver course, hopefully there'll be many more!

I'm now back home after running two very successful Bronze NNAS courses in Surrey.  the fantastic weather certainly helped, but I had some good candidates and they all enjoyed the courses.  There are more coming up - see the Upcoming Events for more details.

I did an excellent winter skills week last week with Hampshire Scout Mountaineering Team.  We could have done with more snow - it has mostly gone!  However, we did find an excellent spot for crampon skills and iceaxe arrest near the top of Sgurr na Sgine and we made two visits to Aonach Mor, the first to do snow belays and the second to finish snow belays and to do emergency shelters.  The last two days we did a couple of walks in summer...

In mid-January I had three days of coaching in my own open boat skills - very useful indeed.  That was run by Sean McGrath whom I recommend - www.wildriver.co.uk/. I certainly learned a lot.

At the beginning of December, it was back to the Lake District to attend the BAIML (British Association of International Mountain Leaders) AGM.  This was very good and a great deal less snowy than last year!  I did the new RLSS Water Margin Safety course, levels 1, 2 and 3.
